INERIS

France

INERIS INERIS, which was founded in 1990, is a French public research body (ECRIP) of an industrial and commercial character under the aegis of the French Ministry for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Spatial Planning.

The Institute carries out or commissions studies and research programmes aimed at preventing the risks brought about by economic activities on health, the safety of persons and property and on the environment, and to provide any services intended to facilitate the adaptation of companies with this objective in mind. In the field of air quality INERIS is a major actor in France contributing to the implementation of the air quality monitoring strategy, and to the development of modelling tools used to assess the effects of air pollution control strategies at the local and regional scales.

INERIS develops the CHIMERE chemistry-transport model to this end. Moreover, INERIS develops and hosts the national air quality forecasting and mapping platform, PREV’AIR (http://www.prevair.org) and is involved in a wide range of FP6 and FP7 projects dedicated to air pollution monitoring and modelling.
